Founded in November 2014, our organization began with a profound mission inspired by the personal journey of our founder, Grace Njuguna, whose granddaughter was affected by meningitis and stroke, resulting in multiple disabilities.
On December 7th, 2015, we opened the Malaika Daycare Centre in Nakuru Town, situated between Bondeni and Kivumbuni Estate, to serve mentally and physically challenged children. Our daycare center operates Monday to Friday, providing vital services such as therapy sessions from a professional occupational therapist, balanced nutritious meals, and psycho-social support for the children and their families. Additionally, our outreach program extends this care into the homes of our children, offering food supplies and essential social support.
Our vision is to create a knowledgeable community capable of making informed decisions to support the physically and mentally disabled, empowering them and improving their spiritual, health, and socio-economic status.

Mission: To empower, build capacity and improve the spiritual, health and soci0-economic status of the PWDs and their caregivers.
Vision: To identify, support, manage and create a knowledgeable community that is able to make informed decisions for the physically and mentally disabled people.
- Therapy: The center provides therapy sessions facilitated by a professionally trained occupational therapist. This therapy helps children with physical challenges improve their motor skills and overall mobility.
- Feeding: Malaika ensures that the children receive balanced nutrition throughout the day. They are provided with nutritious meals, including breakfast, lunch, and a four o’clock snack. This focus on proper nutrition supports for their overall health and mobility development.
- Psycho-Social Support: Malaika recognizes the importance of addressing the psycho-social well-being of the affected families. The center offers dedicated support services to assist the families in coping with the challenges they face. This support can include counseling, guidance, and assistance in navigating the emotional and social aspects of their situation.
- Â Outreach Program: In addition to the daycare center, Malaika runs an outreach program. This program involves home visits to the children’s families, providing much-needed support and assistance. It includes the provision of food supplies and social support, ensuring that families receive the necessary resources to improve their living conditions and overall well-being.
Since our inception, the center has provided support to over 90 children, starting with just 5 initially. Among those who have been consistent in attending, we have witnessed 22 success stories. These include children who have achieved significant milestones such as walking unassisted, feeding themselves, expressing themselves better and even enrolling in school.
We have created a support group for the parents/caregivers and this has helped them save some money and do table banking. This has had a significant impact as the caregivers get a safe space to share, support and encourage each other.
