Bethsaida children’s center is registered with the Government of Kenya under the Ministry of Labour and social Protection as a charitable children institution.It is also an ACCREDITED member of centre for Social Responsibility and Accountability (CESRA) which indicates that they have met all the standard of running as a charitable organization.
The home is located in the heart of Soweto in Nairobi county in a quiet, friendly and peaceful environment fit for the vulnerable children to call a home.The home was founded in the year 2012 as result of increasing orphans, destitute, and street children who all the time would stay around the streets of Soweto and its environment.It consists of 45 children of ages 2 -22 years orphans and destitute,abused, disabled and those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS residing at the Centre.
Currently the home has an ongoing project of completing of the boys dormitory.
PROGRAMS IN THE HOME
- Feeding program:The home plays a vital role in the community around it since they have a feeding program for the elderly.
- Education program; The children from the home go to schools around the community. There is also an education program for the children from poor backgrounds around the home. This ensures that they acquire the knowledge that can help change their family situations. One of the child living with disability attends Thika special school.
- Psychosocial support:The home also offers counseling programs for the children present in the home, the elderly and those living with people with disabilities in the Soweto community.
- Physiological support:The children are engaged in cleaning and revision sessions during the weekend. They are also engaged in games during the weekend at a nearby field.
- Reintegration program: The home has reunited some vulnerable children from the home with their families through counselling sessions of both the children and the family involved with the help of the community administrative body. This has helped in reducing the number of children in the home and in the streets.
