Mentorship Program at Mukungugu Primary School: A Collaborative Effort
On a bright and hopeful morning on June 14th, 2024, Mukungugu Primary School in Njoro welcomed a transformative mentorship program organized by Peace Ambassadors Kenya, Egerton Chapter. The event, supported by Boychild Love, PAMBO Organization, and the Center for Social Responsibility and Accountability (CESRA), focused on themes of self-appreciation and mental health, offering enlightenment and inspiration to the young students.
Among the notable speakers was Ann Ndumia, the esteemed Program Director at CESRA. Ann, widely known for her passion and dedication to uplifting others, delivered a motivational talk that deeply resonated with the children. She encouraged them to recognize their self-worth and understand the importance of mental well-being.” The journey to self-appreciation begins with understanding that each one of us is unique and valuable,” Ann shared during her talk. “It’s crucial to nurture your mind and soul with positive thoughts and actions.”
The children listened intently as she spoke, her words filling the room with an empowering energy. Ann emphasized the significance of mental health, breaking down complex ideas into relatable and understandable concepts for the young audience. She discussed strategies for maintaining a healthy mind, such as practicing mindfulness, seeking help when needed, and engaging in positive self-talk. “Remember, it’s okay to ask for help. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness,” Ann urged the children, reinforcing the importance of mental health awareness.
Following the group session, many students were eager to engage with Ann one-on-one. These personal interactions allowed them to ask questions, share their experiences, and seek further mentorship. Ann’s approachable and compassionate demeanor made it easy for the children to open up, creating a safe space for meaningful dialogue.
One of the students, Mary, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I learned that I am important and that taking care of my mind is just as important as taking care of my body. Thank you, Madam Ann, for teaching us this.”
Another student, John, who had been struggling with self-esteem issues, felt particularly inspired. “Talking to Madam Ann made me realize that I can be proud of who I am. I will try to remember her words every day,” he shared.
The success of this mentorship program highlights the critical role that motivational talks and mental health awareness play in the development of young minds. It also showcases the collaborative efforts of Peace Ambassadors Kenya, Egerton Chapter, Boychild Love, PAMBO Organization, and CESRA in promoting these values.
